Why It Matters
Every year, preventable wildlife conflicts result in animals being destroyed — not because they were dangerous, but because the people they encountered didn't know what to do. A fed bear becomes a dead bear. A surprised cougar becomes a news headline. A coyote that learns to associate humans with food becomes a problem that ends badly for everyone.
Gerald's school talks reach children before habits form. His door-to-door neighbourhood education reaches homeowners before attractants become conflicts. This is prevention work — the cheapest and most effective form of wildlife conservation there is.
All school talks are provided free of charge to BC schools. Gerald covers his own costs — travel, printed materials, equipment. Your donation goes directly to keeping this work sustainable and expanding it to more communities across BC.
"The best wildlife encounter is the one that never happens — because someone knew what to do before they went into the woods."
— Gerald Shaffer, Wildlife Wise Canada
